As part of the graduation project defenses for the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science program for the academic year 2025–2026, IUTT – Faculty of Computer Science and IT presented a distinguished research project titled: Real-time AI Football Referee, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Wael Al-Aghbari, President of the University, and Prof. Dr. Sadiq Manna, Vice President for Academic Affairs.

This project is among the advanced models reflecting the diversity of AI applications, providing an innovative vision for employing computer vision techniques in analyzing football matches and making instantaneous officiating decisions. The project aims to build an intelligent monitoring system that analyzes every scene moment by moment, determining the correct decision (whether it’s a clean play or a foul requiring a yellow or red card) using multiple cameras and a “drone” to monitor player contacts from above.

The project relied on smart learning algorithms to process videos and link frames chronologically, contributing to high accuracy in results. Furthermore, the project resulted in a specialized scientific research paper that presented an advanced approach in this field, achieving superior results compared to many previous related works.

Project Implementation: Sherif Dirhem. Supervision: Dr. Amin Shayae.

Internal Defense Committee: Dr. Hamzah Jamel, Dr. Ayman Al-Sabri, Prof. Dr. Fadhl Ba-Alawi. External Defense Committee: Prof. Dr. Ahmed Sultan Al-Hajami, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Malik Al-Jabri.
