Abstract

This article examines the explosive expansion of the informal construction sector in Yemen in direct relation to ongoing national political instability and institutional breakdown. The research examines how the absence of municipal enforcement has driven unregulated urban growth, created severe structural vulnerabilities, but conversely sustained local family livelihoods and provided low-cost emergency shelter configurations in times of acute socioeconomic crisis.
